Tota Pulchra Choir

Kor Tota Pulchra

In the early 1960’s, several parishes in the Maltese Islands began organising their own choirs to participate in the liturgical functions of the parish, especially at Christmastime, during Holy Week and in the annual feast of the patron or patroness. At Cospicua, Archpriest Can. Victor Cilia sought the help of Mr. Joseph Flask and instituted such a choir in September, 1966. At first the choristers were picked form the female members of the Catholic Action, but later on male voices were added. Presently the choir is under the direction of Mr. Walter Tonna, while Composer, Maestro Michael Camilleri is the organist. Besides taking part inKor Tota Pulchra the frequent religious services at the parish church, the choir also organises every now and then, soirée lyriques of its own, and is often asked to sing in parishes outside Cospicua. The words Tota Pulchra (all beautiful) have been culled from one of the antiphons of the liturgy of the feast of the Immaculate Conception: Tota Pulchra es Maria et macula originalis non est in te. “Mary, you are all beautiful and there is no stain of original sin in you”.
